London Assembly, Greater London Authority
Leonie was elected as the London Assembly Member for Merton and Wandsworth in May 2016. She is the City Hall Labour Group spokesperson on the Environment and Energy, and chaired the Environment Committee 2016-18, overseeing investigations into air quality, parks and open spaces, fuel poverty, electric vehicles, tube noise, a range of issues relating to water, single-use plastic bottles and a large investigation into waste management. She is now the deputy chair of the Committee. Leonie also serves as a member of the Housing Committee, was a member of the Fire Authority 2016-18 and is now on the new Fire & Resilience Committee.
Waste – or Resources?
An outline will be given of the 2017 investigation carried out by the London Assembly’s Environment Committee, into the circulate economy, waste and recycling, plus the key conclusions drawn as a result of the submissions received and meetings held with experts on the full range of the waste hierarchy. Reference will be made to the areas that need to be tackled to reduce waste and improve recycling, including waste reduction, segregation of dry recyclates and food waste, collections from flats, as well as the need for the UK to deal with its own waste.
