Sophie Walker is the COO and Co-Founder of Dsposal, an online platform connecting waste producers with licensed waste companies; combating waste crime, simplifying and digitising compliance, and helping to drive the move to a circular economy.
She’s passionate about sustainability and draws on her very varied background and experiences. Born in Tamil Nadu, India, she spent her early years on rural development projects before moving to North Devon, UK where she attended The Small School. After a number of years travelling in Australia, Thailand, India and Japan Sophie studied Conflict Resolution at the Department of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford. Following graduation, she worked in logistics and supply chain roles before leaving on a cycle tour of North America with her fiancé Tom in 2015. During the 9-month trip they pedalled 8700 miles and Tom came up with the idea for Dsposal.
Since co-founding the company in 2016 Sophie has used her drive and enthusiasm to take on all the commercial and practical sides of the business to turn a brilliant idea into reality and build a company culture of innovation and inclusion. She loves working on something so keenly aligned with her values and the exhilaration of constantly being at the edge of her comfort zone. She is a member of the MBA Industry Advisory Board at the University of Bradford and an alumnus of the CSC Leaders Programme.
